UDHAMPUR, June 11: Up in arms against the PHE Department for its failure over addressing water crisis at Udhampur Assembly constituency, former MLA and Panthers Party president Balwant Singh Mankotia along with scores of party activists organized a “Matka Fod” rally.
The rally took off from Slathia Chowk and after passing through the main bazaar, concluded at Indira Chowk where the Panthers broke earthen pitchers as mark of protest against PHE Department and District Administration. A large number of women took part in the protest rally, which was led by Balwant Singh Mankotia.
While addressing the protest rally, NPP president Balwant Singh Mankotia said that people of Udhampur and surrounding Panchayats were facing water scarcity problem, which has turned horrible during the summer days. “People are making hue and cry due to acute shortage of water but unfortunately the PHE Department has completely turned blind eye over the basic problem of general masses,” he regretted
The Panthers Party activists had also planned to block the road for highlighting the issue before Governor Satya Pal Malik, who was scheduled to visit the town but his tour was cancelled at the eleventh hour.
Others, who addressed the protest rally, included JKNPP general secretary Sukhdev Singh, Amarnath Mehra, secretary Dhani Ram Atri, District Youth president Jagdev Singh Jagga, Rampaul Bhagat, Sunil Gudda, Sardar Manjeet Singh, Ram Prasad, Yashpaul, Naresh Kumar, Pawan Singh, Councillors Sunil Proach, Samnik Bhasin, Asha Devi, Jagdish Kumar, Darshan Kumar, Pawan Sawhney, Youth leader Sony, Sarpanchs Ashok Kumar, Kuldeep Kumar, Uttam Singh, Subash Singh, Ganesh Dutt and Panch Sharda Devi.
