JAMMU, Dec 7: The leaders of Jammu Kashmir Medical Employee Federation (JKMEF), Jammu today expressed resentment against UT Government’s proposal of appointing IAS (non-medicos) officers as Director Health Services Jammu/Kashmir, Director JKACS and Director Family Welfare & Immunization.
In the web meeting held today, Sushil Sudan, president JKMEF said that posts of Director Health Services, Jammu/Kashmir and other heads is being filled on seniority basis among MBBS and PG qualified doctors in addition to that having a work experience in Health Department as they know the department from grass root levels and have sufficient experience for administrative activities.
“Nowhere in the world have we had such example of a non-technical person heading a fully technical field. We are unable to understand as to why the Government is mulling to appoint non-medicos as head of different Health Departments,” Sudan said, adding, this is nothing but non seriousness of the Government towards the Health Department.
The JKMEF president said that a non technical officer will take years together to understand the department and till then he will be transferred and new IAS officer will come and try to understand functioning of the department. “By this way Health Department will suffer a lot. In case the present practice is changed, JKMEF will fight it tooth and nail,” he added.
The Federation leaders LG Manoj Sinha to look into the matter personally and ensure that the present practice of appointing heads is not changed as it will have serious repercussions for the administration.
