SRINAGAR, May 27: While maintaining the social distancing norms, Jammu Kashmir Kisan Tehreek (JKKT) on the call of All India Kissan Sangrash Coordination Committee (AIKSCC), held protests across J&K against anti-farmer policies.
JKKT leaders said that the core sectors of our economy i.e horticulture and agriculture has been badly affected due to the wrong policies of the Government. They said farmers of Kashmir have not only suffered due to lockdown, but last August clampdown and unseasonal snowfall in November 2019.
“And now this season, the spread of scab in orchards due to the spray of fake and sub-standard pesticides and fungicides recommended by concerned officers has wreaked havoc to apple trees,” they said, adding, the agencies, who approved these sprays must be made liable to pay compensation to the growers, who have suffered huge losses.
JKKT also demanded compensation to the farmers for the losses they suffered during lockdown and stressed for re-starting market intervention scheme to procure the left out apples lying in cold stores and the cherry crop which is ready to be dispatched to the markets outside Kashmir.
