JKGBC flays Govt over injustice, discrimination with tribal community

JAMMU, June 11: Jammu Kashmir Gujjar Bakerwal Conference (JKGBC) flayed the Government over the continuous injustice and discrimination with Gujjar and Bakerwals of the State. Addressing a press conference, Haji Saif Ali Kasana, State senior vice president of JKGBC said that State Government failed to redress the issues of the tribal community in the State. He demanded political reservation, inclusion of Gojri language in the 8th schedule of the constitution of India and Gujjar Bakerwals who are residing for the decades together on the forest land, while implementing the national policy, be granted the ownership as per the direction of Supreme Court. He also demanded relief for the people who suffered loss during heavy rains and floods in 2013 and September 2014 and added that more than 8 lakh nomads who are without homes and hearths be settled permanently with basic amenities including road connectivity, water and power in the areas, where majority of Gujjars and Bakerwals reside. Spokesman of the organization Dr Gafoor Ahmed alleged that innocent Gujjars depending on forests are being denied even the right to move freely from one place to another. He demanded implementation of national policy. District president, Jammu, Amir-ud-Din Kasana alleged that district administration Jammu has failed to provide relief to victims of September 2014 flash floods and demanded immediate relief for them under SDRF. Among others present were Akhter Hussain, Choudhary Mohammad Iqbal, Maulana Shah Mohammad, Chiraj Din Choudhary, Choudhary Sarwal Chouhan, Haji Mohammad Yousuf, Reham Ali Choudhary, etc.
