JAMMU, Jan 29: In a special meeting of the Jammu and Kashmir Ex- Services League (JKESL) held under their presidentship of former MLC, Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, it was resolved to offer reverenced salutation to the brave son of the State, Lance Naik Nazir Ahmed Wani as the First Ashok Chakra winner from Kashmir Valley, JAKLI (162 Bn TA).
He has been conferred the highest peace time gallantry award for bravery, Ashok Chakra. The brave warrior was mislead into militancy and sent across LoC for militant training. He realized his blunder on return, surrendered and joined the JAKLI (TA) Battalion. Honoured with Sena Medal twice for fighting militancy, he made the supreme sacrifice in yet another CI operation and got the prestigious award.
The JKESL also resolved to welcome his wife Mehajabeen as “Vir Nari” in the J&K Ex Services League.
