JAMMU, Feb 11: In a fervent call for justice, Wajahat Hussain Durrani, president of the Jammu and Kashmir Employees Joint Action Committee (JKEJAC), urgently appealed to the Government to formulate a job policy for National Health Mission (NHM) employees.
This plea arises from a series of unfulfilled promises by previous administrations, leaving dedicated NHM workers in a precarious situation. He said during Bali Bhagat’s tenure as the State Health Minister, a solemn commitment was made in the Legislative Assembly to regularize NHM employees in a phased manner. Regrettably, despite these assurances, tangible progress towards fulfilling this commitment has been lacking.
Subsequent efforts, including the establishment of a high-power committee by CM Mehbooba Mufti in 2017 and 2018, have failed to yield the desired results.
“The delay in formulating a comprehensive policy has had dire consequences, resulting in the tragic loss of approximately 60 NHM employees. The families left behind are grappling with severe hardships, as these deceased employees were the primary breadwinners,” Wajahat Hussain lamented.
Expressing a sense of urgency, Durrani emphasizes the critical need for implementing the long-promised regularization policy.
Meanwhile, the JKEJAC stands united in its demand for the immediate application of the principle of equal pay for equal work, a substantial increase in monthly salaries, enhanced yearly increments, and a comprehensive pay revision for all categories of NHM employees.
The unfolding crisis faced by NHM employees serves as a poignant reminder of the pressing need for swift Government intervention. Durrani implores the Lieutenant Government to act promptly, alleviating the suffering of affected families and honouring the commitment made to these diligent workers.
