JKAS officer, Polytechnic Lecturer nabbed by CBI taking graft

*Rs. 2.3. lakh cash recovered

JAMMU, Feb 8: Sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested a Chief Accounts Officer (CAO) and a Lecturer red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 2.3 lakh.
As per a statement, Sajad Ahmed, JKAS, Chief Accounts Officer, Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) and Shokat Ali, Lecturer, Government Polytechnic College, Jammu, were held by the CBI team for demanding the bribe in lieu of processing payment in respect of bills submitted by a firm.
“A case was registered on the complaint against the accused on the allegations that the CAO, JKTDC demanded bribe of Rs 2.3 lakh through a Lecturer of the Government Polytechnic College, Jammu from the complainant for processing payment in respect of bills submitted by his firm,” read the statement.
According to official sources, the CAO, JKTDC, Sajad Ahmed, was an old acquaintance of Shokat Ali, the Government Polytechnic College lecturer, as he (CAO) was also posted as a faculty member in the College prior to his cracking of the prestigious Civil Services examination to become a JKAS officer.
“Acting on the written complaint, a trap was laid by the CBI team and both the Government employees were arrested red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe,” the press statement further said.
It said that the accused would be produced before the court of Special Judge, CBI cases, Jammu, tomorrow.
A case has been registered against the accused for further investigation. Both have been lodged in CBI Police Station. Cash has been recovered from the possession of acused in presence of Magistrate and witnesses.
