J&K UT Boxing C’ship 2025-26 concludes

JAMMU, Mar 30: The J&K UT Boxing Championship 2025-26 concluded in a spectacular display of skill and sportsmanship at the Indoor Sports Complex, MA Stadium, Jammu. Organised by the J&K Amateur Boxing Association under the aegis of the Boxing Federation of India and J&K Olympic Association and sponsored by the J&K Sports Council, the championship saw participation from 159 elite male and female boxers representing 15 districts of the Union Territory, including Jammu, Srinagar, Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, Kathua, Budgam, Baramulla, Kupwara, Samba, Ramban, Udhampur, Ganderbal, Doda, and the J&K Police team. National medallists Deepak Singh Katoch and Mohd Aarif were among the star participants.
MLA Yudhvir Sethi graced the occasion as chief guest, distributing medals and certificates to the winners. He also announced funding for the construction of stairs on the western side of the boxing arena, a move appreciated by all. President of J&K Amateur Boxing Association, Prof Dr Ashutosh Sharma, was also present. The technical conduct of the championship was managed by Sandeep Singh Chib, Sajad Pathan, Akash Baigra, Avinash Kumar, Naresh Kumar, Hardesh Kumar, Anshuman Khajuria, Rahul Kumar, Aman Sangral, Rajneesh Kumar, Gautam Kumar and Himanshu Shekhar.
In the Elite Men finals, Mohd Arif (Doda) defeated Kush Sharma (Jammu) in 47-50 kg; Ankit Saini (Jammu) beat Azan (Budgam) in 50-55 kg; Arun Kumar (Samba) overcame Akash Sharma (JKP) in 55-60 kg; Mehroof (JKP Kupwara) defeated Mohit Khajuria (Kathua) in 60-65 kg; Vinod Bhardwaj (JKP) won against Harshit Singh (Jammu) in 65-70 kg; Masood Ali (Rajouri) defeated Jan Mohd Dar (JKP) in 75-80 kg; Vinay Partap Singh (JKP) defeated Huzaif Yaseen (Srinagar) in 80-85 kg; and Sanjay Sharma (JKP) triumphed over Raj Singh (Jammu) in 85-90 kg.
In Elite Women finals, Versha Bhat (Ramban) defeated Joyesta (Kathua) in 51-54 kg, and Ananya Choudhary (Jammu) overcame Sangesta Devi (Ramban) in 65-70 kg.
In Youth Men finals, Basu Dev (Samba) defeated Lalit Khajuria (Kathua) in 47-50 kg; Harish (Jammu) beat Aditya Sharma (Doda) in 55-60 kg; Kanav Sharma (Jammu) defeated Virbaz (Udhampur) in 65-70 kg. Youth Women finals saw Simriti Choudhary (Udhampur) defeat Tamanna Khan (Poonch) in 45-48 kg, and Anjali Devi (Udhampur) beat Palvi Devi in 48-51 kg.
Junior Boys winners: Litesh (Udhampur, 44-46 kg), Mudassar (Poonch, 54-57 kg), Abhishek (Udhampur, 57-60 kg). Sub-Junior Boys winners: Pankaj (Kathua, 33-35 kg), Mohit Bhagat (Kathua, 37-40 kg), Amir Malik (Rajouri, 40-43 kg), Mohd Farid (Rajouri, 43-46 kg), Amir Farooq (Poonch, 46-49 kg).
Junior Girls winner: Ayman Jan (Baramulla, 50-52 kg). Sub-Junior Girls winners: Shagufta (Kathua, 40-43 kg), Baleen (Kathua, 43-46 kg), Jaskrit (Kathua, 46-49 kg). Ankit Saini was adjudged Best Boxer, while Rizwan was named Best Promising Boxer, highlighting Jammu’s dominance and the growing standard of boxing across the Union Territory.
