NEW DELHI, Feb 17: A fifty member delegation of Sarpanchs from Jammu and Kashmir, led by Shafiq Mir, chairman All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC), met with AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi at New Delhi on Monday.
The delegation apprised Rahul about political scenario in Jammu and Kashmir and demanded enhancement in the honorarium of Sarpanchs and Panchs.
During the meeting, Shafiq Mir invited AICC vice president to the State of Jammu and Kashmir for which Rahul Gandhi agreed and said he would visit J&K whenever they wish.
Shafiq Mir also expressed gratitudes to Rahul Gandhi for his role in the extension of 73rd Amendment of Indian constitution to the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
Giving details about the political scenario of the State and working of the Government, Mir claimed that there was neither “Modi factor” nor any other factor but the only factor which prevailed in the State of Jammu and Kashmir was “Tainted Factor” which Rahul promised to remove.
During this half an hour meeting, Shafiq Mir also raised the issue of Jatt community in the State of Jammu and Kashmir and appealed Rahul to give the J&K Jatts reservation at par with the community in other parts of India.
In the end of the meeting, Rahul Gandhi agreed all the points raised by Panchayat leaders and said that their role will be utilized. Rahul said that the development of the country was never possible until and unless local bodies are empowered.
Other prominent who spoke on the occasion included, Bashir Ahmed Malik provincial president Kashmir (AJKPC) Goutem Singh Jamwal provincial president Jammu (AJKPC) Raj Dev Singh, Anil Sharma, Gurbachan Singh and Bader Din.
