J&K receives Rs 56,000 cr investment proposals, Rs 38,080 cr worth approved: LG

JAMMU, Aug 3: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has said that Jammu and Kashmir Government has received industrial investment proposals worth Rs 56,000 crore and many business houses from abroad especially Gulf will be investing in the Union Territory. The groundbreaking ceremony of investments was performed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 24 at Palli Panchayat in Samba district of Jammu region.
“Since Independence, Jammu and Kashmir had received private investments to the tune of Rs 14,000 crore only. However, after introduction of new Industrial Development Scheme and personal interest taken by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the UT has received investment proposals worth Rs 56,000 crore in just about one year time,” Sinha said.
He added that the Government has approved investment proposals of Rs 38,080 crore.
The Lieutenant Governor said Dubai’s Emaar Group will be constructing Shopping Maal. Lulu Group is also investing in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Nearly 20 companies want to join Hospitality sector. A proposal for Medi City has also been approved. The MBBS seats will also go up by about 1,000,” he added.
It may be mentioned here that there has been huge rush of investments in Jammu and Kashmir by the private players from the country as well as abroad. Several builders had also shown keen interest in investments here during a Summit organized in December last year.
Many more companies were also reported to have approached the Jammu and Kashmir administration showing interest in investment in different sectors in the Union Territory.
Referring to the condition of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, Sinha said when he came to Jammu and Kashmir, it was 11 hours run between Jammu and Srinagar which has now been reduced between five to five and half hours.
“There have been certain problems in one portion of 11 kilometres due to construction of a tunnel which will be completed next year. This will further reduce travel time between Jammu and Srinagar to four or four and half hours,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He added that development has been taking place in Jammu and Kashmir on every front.
Jammu and Kashmir, he said, has far less rate than national average in child mortality, Under 5 mortality etc and has far better sex ratio.
“In life expectancy, teacher-student ratio, forest tree cover, per capita energy consumption etc, Jammu and Kashmir has shown excellent results as compared to national averages,” Sinha said.
He said after new system was introduced by the Government of India on August 5, 2019, common man has benefitted a lot in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Dalit, women, West Pakistani refugees and many other sections of society which were deprived of their rights have been given their due,” Sinha said.
The Central Government had scrapped special status of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019 and bifurcated erstwhile State into two Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh. The West Pakistani refugees and some other sections who were denied State Subjects are now entitled to domicile certificate and can apply for Government jobs in Jammu and Kashmir.
