J&K Police has strength of over 74,000 members

Srinagar, June 7: Gover-nment today said the overall present posted strength of Jammu and Kashmir Police is 74913 and there are 224 police stations in the State.
In reply to a question of MLC Naresh Gupta in Upper House, the Minister Incharge Home said that out of 224 police stations, six are women police stations, 11 are in Railways, 2 CID, 2 Crime Branch, one tourist police station and seven anti-Human trafficking Units. Besides, he said, 228 police posts (including 20 in Railways and 108 Border Police Posts) exist in the State.
The Minister said that these police stations are ‘actively connected’ with the investigation of crime. He said no new administrative unit has been sanctioned in the Police Department since 2014. “Police headquarters has been asked to work out a consolidated proposal for creation of Police Sub-Divisions/Police Stations/Police Posts keeping in view the felt requirements of the department,” said the Minister and added that the proposal is under examination with Police Headquarters.
