NEW DELHI, Jan 1 : Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances,Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said here that the newly created Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh will receive Northeast like focus and it is the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that these two Union Territories should be treated with the same priority and focussed attention which was given to the North Eastern region during the last five years.
Addressing a press conference, flanked by Secretary DoPT and ARPG C. Chandramouli and Secretary Northeast/DoNER Inderjit Singh, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the new year of 2020 will witness a series of outreach programmes from the Government of India, aimed at achieving targeted goals within laid down time-lines in Jammu &  Kashmir and Ladakh. He said, similar persistent outreach was followed in case of North East as well, which led to a revolutionary transformation in the region.
With the law and order coming directly under the Union Home Ministry and the Central DoPT guidelines being followed in governance, Dr Jitendra Singh expressed the hope that Jammu & Kashmir will emerge as a model of governance and result-oriented delivery for the rest of the country.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, the unexplored potentials of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh will be sought to be put to optimum use in the same manner as was done in the case of North East. For example, CSIR (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research) has already been directed to undertake a project to promote the organic fruit “Ladakh Berry” on the same pattern as it is going ahead to promote the “Garo Berry” fruit in Meghalaya, he informed.
Governance and administration will be given special impetus in Jammu & Kashmir said, Dr Jitendra Singh. This is borne out by a series of events, including mega events of national level, undertaken in the new Union Territory.  Within just two months of the Union Territory having come into existence, DoPT (Department of Personnel & Training) and ARPG (Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances) organised two national level events with a participation from as many as 18 States and the third one is scheduled in Jammu after two days on the 3rd of this month.
