J&K has low girl child ratio

NEW DELHI, Aug 26: Notwithstanding the strenuous efforts made by the Centre and the State Government to protect girl child, Jammu and Kashmir is among the states who have registered fall in female child ratio though it is marginal.
This has been revealed by the religion based census (2011) figures of which were released here yesterday. The other States in this grouping are Rajasthan, UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Meghalaya.
While the male child proportion (0 to 6 years) has as expected increased the same is not true in the case of girl child.
In the overall national context the proportion of Hindu population to total population in 2011 has declined by 0.7 percentage point (PP); the proportion of Sikh population has declined by 0.2 PP and the Buddhist population by 0.1 PP during the decade 2001-2011. The proportion of Muslim population has increased by 0.8 PP. There has been no significant change in the proportion of Christians and Jains.
The growth rate of population in the decade 2001-2011 was 17.7 %. The growth rate of different religious communities in the same period was as Hindus: 16.8%; Muslim: 24.6%; Christian: 15.5%; Sikh: 8.4%; Buddhist: 6.1% and Jains 5.4%.
Delhi has attained the dubious status of being number one in terms of maximum density of population and also the highest proportion of urban population that stands at whooping 97.5 per cent.
Significantly, the total population of J&K has been registered at 1,25,41,302. The state overwhelmingly retains its Muslim majority status with 8567485 Muslims and 3566674 Hindus. The Sikh population stands at 234848 followed by 112584 Buddhists, 35631 Christians and 2490 Jains. Those who did not state their religion stood at 20082.
Jammu district has registered a population of 1529958 with 1289240 Hindus, 107489 Muslims, 114272 Sikhs and 12104 Christians. Udhampur with a population of 554985 has 489044 Hindus, 59771 Muslims, 1962 Christians and 3418 Sikhs.
Srinagar district has 1236829 total population with an overwhelming 1177342 Muslims and only 42540 Hindus as against 12187 Sikhs and 2746 Christians. Anantnag has registered a population of 1078692 with 1057005 Muslims and 13180 Hindus. Baramulla has similar population 1008039 with 959185 Muslims, 30621 Hindus and 14770 Sikhs.
Interestingly, Kishtwar has population of 230696 with 13325 Muslims and 93931 Hindus.
Reasi district has an evenly spread population of Hindus and Muslims. Out of 314667 population Hindus comprise 153898 and Muslims 156275.  Kathua has a population of 616435 with 540063 Hindus, 64234 Muslims and 9551 Sikhs.
In Poonch district total population pin-pointed in this census is 476835 with 431279 Muslims and 32604 Hindus. In Rajouri’s total population of 642415 there are 221880 Hindus, 402879 Muslims and 15513 Sikhs.
In Ramban total population is 283713 with 200516 Muslims and 81026 Hindus.
Leh, out of total population of 133487 has 88635 Buddhists, 22882 Hindus and 19057 Muslims. Kargil has a population of 140802 with 108239 Muslims, 20126 Buddhists and 10341 Hindus.
