J&K Gujjars denied reservation rights: GBC

JAMMU, Oct 14:  The Jammu and Kashmir Gujjar Bakerwal Conference (GBC) has  alleged that members of this community have been denied reservation rights in the State.
Talking to media persons here today, chief spokesman of the organization, Dr Gafoor Ahmed alleged that constitutional guarantees to the Scheduled Tribes is being blatantly denied in the State. The community is struggling for the political reservation for last more than two decades but the State Government has turned a deaf ear towards this demand.
Dr Gafoor further pointed out that even the employees of Gujjar-Bakerwal community are being denied opportunity in promotions. He strongly assailed the Government for not adhering to the reservation rules and misuse of quota of the members of this community.
The community leaders Haji Mohd Yaqoob, Ch Akhtar Husain, Haji Saif Ali, and Noor Ahmed Noor strongly projected the demands of political reservation, permanent settlement of nomad Gujjars, implementation of  Division Bench judgment by virtue of which the State has been directed to constitute scrutiny committee to scrutinize the ST certificates issued in state, establishment of Gujjar Bhawans in Srinagar, Jammu, Gujjar- Bakerwal hostels for girl students in all districts, establishment of Gujjar Regiment  in Army and representation in all permanent commissions in the state.
