J&K deluge: 65 of 381 stranded tourists from K’taka rescued

BANGALORE: Amid unprecedented rains and floods in Jammu and Kashmir, the Karnataka Government had sent top officials

along with a team and it said 65 of the stranded 381 tourists and pilgrims from the State were rescued today. Information reaching here said there were 200 people among the stranded people from the state and today 65 of them were sent safely by air to Delhi.

The tourists brought back safely were taken to Karnataka Bhavan in the national capital and would be sent to their home towns shortly.

The State Government had deputed senior official Ramanjit Chaudhury and its Commissioner in Delhi Mr Walia. They had stayed in Jammu for the past three days and ensured that information about people from Karnataka in the rain hit state was provided to their relatives, an official press release said here.

‘We have identified almost all people from the state among scores of other people from outside Kashmir who are stranded in floods. We have provided a help desk in Srinagar airport and the relatives could contact local number 080-22340676 and toll free number 1070,’ Mr Chaudhury said.

Reports had said that there were more people from the State stranded in Kashmir and the rescue work had been hampered due to continuous rains.

Meanwhile, the Armed Forces have taken up the rescue work on a war footing in the rain ravaged Kashmir with over 45 aircraft deployed in the operation. (AGENCIES)
