J&K cultural groups to perform in Japan, Egypt

JAMMU, Sept 8: Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Union Ministry of External Affairs, is sending two cultural groups of Jammu & Kashmir to perform in Egypt and Japan.
This was informed here today by the Regional Director of ICCR, J&K, Balwant Thakur, in a press briefing at ICCR Regional Headquarters in Jammu.
The first group comprising of 12 members will go from Ladakh to Japan. Headed by Tsering Sopari of Northern Arts and Culture Society Leh, this group will perform series of the presentations of traditional Ladakhi music and dance in different parts of Japan including in Tokyo from September 14 to October 9 in the programme series ‘Namaste India’ being organised by ICCR.
Balwant Thakur further informed that 2nd group will go from Kashmir valley to Egypt for its participation in 10th International Samma Festival for chanting and spiritual music being held in Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt, from September 20 to 27. Eminent Kashmiri Chakkari and Sufi singer Gulzar Ahmed Ganai with his group of 6 members will present Kashmiri traditional and Sufi music in 10th Samma Festival.
