JAMMU, Mar 4: To highlight their long pending demands especially the payment of their pending dues and salaries the representatives of J&K Cement Retired Employees Front called on higher ups in the Government including Advisor to Lt Governor, Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary Industries and Commerce and Additional Secretary Industries and Commerce seeking their intervention in settling their genuine issues.
The delegation of the Front informed them about the miseries and hardships faced by the retired employees as well as their dependents for want of their legitimate retirement dues which they have not been paid partially since 2012 and fully since 2016.
They informed them that as their job was non pensionable and hence they are totally dependent on retirement benefits which are still unpaid with the result many families having no source of income are at verge of starvation while some of the families are worried about the marriage of their grown up daughters as they have no money to arrange their marriage ceremony.
Some employees suffering old age problems and ailments are unable to purchase the medicines due to paucity of money. The delegation informed the authorities that among the retired employees 115 passed away who till their last breath were waiting for release of their pending wages. This has created a traumatic situation for these hapless retired employees who gave their precious years of life to JK Cements.
The delegation appealed the authorities to come to the rescue of the retired employees by mitigating their sufferings on humanitarian grounds. They demanded that the JK Cement has been disposed off and till its sale value is achieved, the Government should keep some budget provision under separate head out of J&K Government plan for retired employees of JK Cements for their survival. This amount can later be adjusted against their unpaid retirement dues after disposal of JK Cements assets.
The authorities informed the delegation that they are fully aware of the miseries of the retired employees of the JK Cements. The Advisor urged the MD JK Cements to put up his recommendations regarding retired employees’ demand of keeping some budgetary provisions out of J&K plan for these employees.
Later the delegation also called on MD JK Cements and requested him to put the proposal to Government in this regard who assured that he will submit the report within two three days to higher ups.
