JAMMU/SRINAGAR, June 21: The 11th International Day of Yoga was celebrated with great enthusiasm across Jammu and Kashmir, reflecting this year’s theme-“Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”
From Government departments, politicians, and educational institutions to rural communities and security agencies, a wide range of events were held promoting yoga as a key to physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Leading the main event at SKICC in Srinagar, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, called yoga a powerful daily practice for holistic health.
She said that even 30 minutes of yoga a day can significantly improve a person’s life.
Highlighting rising lifestyle-related health problems, she urged people to embrace yoga as a preventive health tool.
The Minister also noted that yoga could play a major role in tackling drug addiction among youth by bringing discipline and focus into their lives.
She appreciated the coordinated efforts of Health, Education, and Ayush departments in making Yoga Day celebrations a success across Jammu and Kashmir.
The Central Bureau of Communication organised an outreach programme at Government HSS, Chenani in Udhampur district to celebrate the International Day of Yoga.
Yoga gurus from Bhartiya Yog Sansthan led sessions highlighting yoga’s benefits, while open quizzes, expert talks, and painting competitions kept students engaged.
The event brought together teachers, students, and locals, reinforcing the message that yoga is not just a physical activity but a lifestyle choice.
The Directorate of Health Services Jammu observed the day with yoga demonstrations by Isha Foundation volunteers under the “Miracle of Mind” initiative.
Director Dr Abdul Hamid Zargar, along with other officials, participated in the asanas and brief meditation practices.

Central University of Kashmir (CU Kashmir) observed the 11th International Day of Yoga at its Tulmulla Campus with active participation from students, faculty, and staff.
The event began with a live broadcast of the national celebration led by the Prime Minister, followed by a yoga session under the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”
Vice-Chancellor of the institute, Prof A Ravinder Nath highlighted yoga’s role in promoting preventive healthcare, mental wellness, and a balanced lifestyle.
Prof Nath urged participants to integrate yoga into their daily routine and adopt mindful habits for long-term well-being.
Dean School of Education, Prof S Z A Geelani, described yoga as a way to stay centered in today’s fast-paced world, calling it a guide to spiritual and sustainable living.
NIT Srinagar celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga with great enthusiasm, bringing together over 300 students, faculty, and staff for a vibrant morning session of yoga, pranayama, and meditation.
Held at the Common Hall, the event was led by certified instructors and attended by Director Prof Binod Kanojia and senior faculty members, who highlighted the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life for physical and mental well-being.
Ahead of the main event, a six-day yoga workshop was organized from June 16 to 21 in collaboration with NSS, EBSB Cell, and the Sports Club.

In Katra, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board celebrated Yoga Day in collaboration with the Art of Living Foundation at its Sports Complex.
CEO Anshul Garg highlighted the significance of incorporating yoga into daily schedules for staff and pilgrims alike, calling it a means to improve both personal well-being and professional efficiency in managing the pilgrimage ecosystem.
Yoga sessions were also conducted at SMVDIME Kakryal, Bhawan, and Adhkuwari, drawing participation from medical staff and security agencies.
The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) celebrated Yoga Day with sessions conducted by Dr Hilal Ahmad Rather.
