Scores of employees gathered at Press Enclave to support their demands with slogans. They said they have been faced with termination or wage cuts despite working as security guards for over one decade and they demand that the decision be reversed immediately.
“We have been protesting against salary reductions and terminations for the last 15-days but no one is listening to us. The decision should be reversed as soon as possible. We do not mind if they pay us according to the Minimum Wage Act or terminate employees as per the law,” said Farooq Ahmad, a protestor.
According to the protestors, they used to receive Rs 7500 in hand as monthly income, with additional Rs 1600 deducted as CP fund; however, they now receive only Rs 5500 in hand as monthly salary, which they said is insufficient to make both ends meet.
“I have been a security guard for 11 years and never encountered such an issue. Because my spouse died ten years ago, I am the only source of support of my ailing parents and children. What will my family eat if the company fires me?” a protestor, Tasleema Bano, said, adding that the government should consider the hundreds of families who rely on these security guards.
The protestors urged Chairman J&K Bank to take appropriate action so that they are not forced to for salary cut and termination.
