J&K authors to get subsidy

JAMMU, Mar 15: J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages has announced subsidy to the tune of Rs 16 lakh to writers of various constitutionally recognized languages in the State for publishing their works.
The announcement was made by Secretary JKAACL here today after Academy received approval of the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, who is the President of the Academy, to the proposal submitted to her by the Academy under the subsidy to author’s scheme.
Giving details, Secretary JKAACL, Dr Aziz Hajini said that the subsidy is being given for the year 2015-16.  He said that 134 manuscripts in different languages including Urdu, Kashmiri, Dogri, Hindi, Punjabi, Pahari, Gojri and English were received by the Academy for grant of subsidy.
As per the rules upon receipt of recommendations of reviewers the Academy submits proposal to the President for approval. The Secretary said that authors of the manuscripts, for which subsidy has been sanctioned, would be intimated individually.
“For information, they could also contact the Academy’s Central Office and the two Divisional Offices at Srinagar and Jammu,” Hajini said.
Pertinently, ‘Subsidy to Authors’ scheme is one among many such schemes being implemented by the Academy for promotion and development of art, culture and languages in the State.
“It is an important scheme under which 50% of the printing cost of books is provided by the Academy as subsidy to authors who find it difficult to publish their works and recover the cost,” the Secretary JKAACL said.
“The scheme is open to the State Subjects or any other person settled in the State as an employee of the Government, a firm, or engaged in business or trade. Persons living outside J&K who write in the languages recognized by the State Constitution can also apply”, he added.
