JAMMU, Oct 18: Jammu Joint Students’ Federation (JJSF) here today paid rich tributes to the student martyrs of 1966.
A number of JJSF volunteers led by Pushvinder Singh, President JJSF paid floral tributes to the student martyrs of 1966. This was followed by Havan at Shaheedi Sthal, GGM Science College.
After this JJSF volunteers distributed Halwa Prasad and Pushvinder Singh administered a pledge to the students to work for justice to Jammu region.
He asked JJSF activists to follow the path shown by student martyrs.
Talking to reporters he said, in 1966, the then Government had tried to shift Agriculture College from Jammu to Kashmir (Sopore) triggering agitation by the students of GGM Science College.
“During the agitation four students-S. Gurcharan Singh, Gulshan Handa, Brij Mohan and Subash Chander were martyred in police firing on protesting students,” he maintained adding that since then JJSF is observing Student Martyrs’ Days every year on Oct 16, 17 and 18.
“As a ritual four JJSF activists sit on a fast for three days which ended today,” he maintained.
Juice was offered to the fasting students by Dr. D.N Mehta, one of the protesters of 1966 and Kuljeet Singh Jamwal, ex-Chairman, JJSF.
