Jitin Prasada meets Skoda Auto representatives, seeks higher investment in India

NEW DELHI, Apr 23: Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada, met with representatives of Skoda Auto in the Czech Republic and encouraged the firm to enhance its investment in India’s automobile sector.

The meeting took place during his official visit to the Czech Republic from April 22-23, 2026, aimed at strengthening bilateral economic cooperation.

“As part of the programme, Prasada visited leading Czech industrial and technology companies in the automotive, transport equipment, and advanced engineering sectors, including Skoda Transportation in Plzen,” the commerce ministry said in a statement.

The Minister also held a meeting with representatives of Skoda Auto and encouraged them to enhance investment in India’s automobile sector.

Czech auto major Skoda Auto has stated that its vehicle sales in India increased 17 per cent to 20,028 units in the January-March quarter of 2026, from 17,138 vehicles in the same quarter of last year, driven by an enhanced product portfolio and expanding market reach.

During the visit, the Minister held bilateral meetings with senior Czech leadership, including Karel Havlicek, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade; Jan Sechter, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade and Marie Chatardova, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

These engagements focused on reviewing progress in economic cooperation and exploring new avenues to strengthen industrial and trade linkages across priority sectors. (PTI)
