Jammu, Mar 25: The Department of Mathematics of the Central University of Jammu organised two days workshop on “Computational Mathematics on SageMath- An open source Mathematics Software” at Temporary Academic Block (TAB), Sainik Colony.
The workshop was organized to generate awareness among the participants toward the working with SageMath. This is a first kind of workshop in the area of computational mathematics.
Prof. Kapil Hari Paranjape, IISER Mohali was guest of honour in the workshop  and delivered the inaugural talk. He outlined various dimensions of mathematics and use of SageMath in mathematical computation. Since Sage is an open source software, so, it is easily available and freely accessible to all. It is equally beneficial for both students and teachers engaged in computational mathematics.
Dr. Jitendra Singh, MoS in PMO, was the chief guest of the event. He congratulated to the Department of Mathematics on organizing such type of workshop. “I believe that CUJ has a grand campus at Bagla and that will be one of the leading university in northern region.
He mentioned that mathematics is the basis of all subjects and recently due to computational mathematics it became possible to have new and new devices. He said that the science has the responsibility to serve society with it inventions, so, outcome should be useful for the society and next generation. He provided several ideas to make the university as a centre of excellence. He also appreciated the initiative taken by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ashok Aima.
Prof. Ashok Aima Vice-Chancellor Central University of Jammu delivered his presidential remark and mentioned that Dr. Jitendra Singh has contributed a lot for the growth of the university and suggested new courses with distinct visibility like: center for earth science, space-technology, Nano-technology, Nuclear energy etc.
Prof. Devanand, Dean, School of Basic and Applied Sciences discussed his views on Sage and its applications. Prof. Kapil Hari Paranjape, IISER Mohali, Dr Chanchal Kumar, IISER Mohali, Ms. Manjusha Joshi, Data Scientist were the resource persons.
Earlier, Prof. S.D. Sharma, Head Department of Mathematics shared the applications of Sage with the mathematical community. Dr. Pavinder Singh, Department of Mathematics presented formal vote of thanks.
