JE caught red-handed taking bribe

JAMMU, June 11: A Junior Engineer (JE) of the Rural Development Department (RDD) posted in Sathra block of district Poonch, was today caught red handed by the sleuths of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting bribe.
Official sources said that action was taken by the ACB on a specific complaint against the JE Mohd Rashid Malik posted in REW wing of the RDD in district Poonch. The complainant reported to the Anti Corruption Bureau, alleging that JE Mohd Rahid Malik, presently posted in Block Sathra, Poonch demanded a bribe of Rs 12000 for releasing payment for construction of drain in favour of complainant and five other NREGA card holders.
The complainant alleged that he approached Block Development Officer , Sathra and Assistant Commissioner Development, Poonch for redressal of complaint, but no action was taken by them against the Junior Engineer.
On receipt of the written complaint, a case FIR No. 2 of 2021, under Section 7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered in Police Station ACB Rajouri against the Junior Engineer and investigation was taken up.
Accordingly, a trap team was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and caught Mohd Rashid Malik alias Janu, son of Mohd Sajjad Malik, resident of Mandi, Kalani, Tehsil Mandi district Poonch, red- handed while demanding and accepting the bribe from the complainant.
The bribe amount to the tune of Rs 6000 was also recovered on the spot. He was arrested and taken into custody by ACB team. After the arrest searches were also conducted in the premises of the accused. Further investigation was in progress.
