JAMMU, June 17: A three member delegation of All J&K Jat Sabha led by its president Manjit Singh (former Minister) today called on Commission for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) to reiterate its demands of inclusion of Jat community in OBC category. The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Commission.
Former Minister, Sukhnandan Choudhary and former Member Legislative Council (MLC), Ch. Vikram Randhawa were part of the delegation. Retired Justice GD Sharma who is chairman of the Commission for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes in the presence of Munir Khan and RL Bharti both members were apprised of the demand by the delegation.
During their interaction with the Commission Manjit Singh said that the Jat community in Jammu and Kashmir is socially and economically backward and urged upon the Commission to give a positive thought to include this community in OBC category. Even after 1947 the educational standard of the community could not improve because of the reason that there were three Indo-Pak Wars i.e 1947, 1965, 1971. Due to these wars, Jat community remained displaced for want of rehabilitation in camps and later in new Basties established by the Government along the border, he added.
Manjit Singh said that the community which always faced the onslaught of enemy being located on front line of Indo-Pak border. All the times it was uprooted and displaced and there was a huge loss of men and material which cannot be explained in words.
Sukhnandan Choudhary while speaking on the occasion said that the community is fighting for inclusion in OBC category since long and it is the ripe time to consider the demand for right and appropriate action by the authorities.
Ch. Vikram Randhawa said that All J&K Jat Sabha is struggling since long for the legitimate right of the community and during the Governor rule in erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir under Satya Pal Malik due consideration was given but the developments aftermath derailed the process. He appealed the Commission to act swiftly on the request so that this deprived lot of the society is given some respite in educational institutes as well as in employment.
