At the outset, the Governor N. N. Vohra and the Education Minister Altaf Ahmed Bukhari deserve our sincere admiration for having taking keen interest in deciding to restore Janglote Campus to University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) Jammu. This is in conformity to the public sentiments, here in Jammu. Not only this, the Education Minister has assured Government’s full logistic and financial support to expedite the ongoing construction activities in respect of the permanent campus in Kathua.
Contrary to earlier decision of the State Government, the UIET shall continue to be a constitute College of the Jammu University with its permanent campus at Janglote, Kathua which is almost near completion. There remains no confusion or any ambiguity in the subject matter. This all could be possible on account of a much required initiative in the form of a meeting between the Governor and the Education Minister at Raj Bhawan on March 6 morning. Janglote Kathua campus of the UIET shall now be provided Rashtriya Uchtar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) funding and full financial and logistic support. It is learnt that only the Institute of Engineering and Technology Safapora Kashmir shall be designated as a Government College of Engineering and Technology since the University of Kashmir had a full fledged college at Zakura Campus. Now, both Kashmir as well as Jammu will have two engineering colleges each. In other words, existing GCET Jammu and UIET Janglote for Jammu region and GCET Safapora and UIET in Zakura Kashmir.
