Jammu sculptor couple to attend international symposium at Senegal

JAMMU, Apr 8: Chander Parkash and Sonu Aggarwal, the sculptor couple of Jammu have been invited  to participate in an international sculpture symposium to be held in held in  Senegal, Africa. Organized by Government of Senegal, Ministry of Culture from May  1-20, 2014, the prestigious sculpture symposium is being held at Dakar, the  capital city of West African nation.
Well known for monumental sculpture in stone and wood, the husband and wife team of  Chander Prakash and Sonu Agarwal are internationally recognized contemporary  sculptors who have won many honours and awards in the country and abroad. Besides   showing their works regularly shown in national and international exhibitions, the  couple has already participated in number of international symposia in countries  like Israel, Costa Rica, Germany, France, Egypt, Turkey, Serbia, Canada,  Switzerland and Cape Town.
Sonu Agarwal was the first female artist from J&K to get Commonwealth Award form  U.K for work in South Africa in 2004, while Chander Prakash is recipient of AIFACS,  India scholarship and junior fellowship from ministry of culture. Sonu Agarwal is  working as Instructor Sculpture, Institute of Music & Fine Arts, University of  Jammu, while Chander Prakash is a freelance artist. The couple presently lives and  works in their studio Kala Vriksha at Sangrampur, Jammu.
