JAMMU, Dec 23: Civil Society and retired Army/Police personnel today said that Jammu region always faced discrimination by the political regimes as well as mandated leaders in terms of assembly segments.
Discussing the draft recommendation of the Delimitation Commission, prominent members of the civil society including retired Army/Police personnel and others during a meeting held under the chairman ship of Sewa Singh Mankotia (retired SP) expressed gratitude towards the Delimitation Commission for creating six assembly segments in Jammu reigons including one in Udhampur District.
“In Udhampur, hilly terrain, lesser development indicators and means of communication had been looming issues. More so the area of Udhampur was increased with attachment of Bamahag area of Reasi district,” they said and expressed happiness on getting accord of Delimitation Commission to the age-old demand for creating separate assembly segment for the area of Majalta as it is a fit case because of the Dhar road passing through Majalta up to Udhampur.
“Majalta is geographically cut from Ramnagar by a high mountain and has an easy and nearer access to Udhampur via Dhar Road and also to Samba and Jammu by Samba-Mansar-Udhampur Highway. With passage of time and developing of communication facilities, the cultural linguistic and relationship ties of area of Majalta have slowly withered with Ramnagar,” they said and proposed to combine the adjoining and loosely- knit areas of erstwhile Chenani, Udhampur and Ramnagar segments located on the both sides of Dhar-Udhampur Road axis to Majalta Segment.
