Jammu police arrests online fraudsters from Mumbai

JAMMU, Apr 25:  With the arrest of four Nigerian nationals from Mumbai, Jammu police today claimed to have busted a gang of online fraudsters cheating gullible people in various parts of the country.
SSP Jammu, Uttam Chand while addressing media persons at police station Gandhi Nagar, said “We received a complaint from one Naveen Anand who informed us that he had been cheated online by some impersonating car dealers selling imported cars. In his complaint, the complainant said that he booked an imported SUV Land Rover on www.Quicker.com and also transferred Rs 5 lakh in an unknown account for delivery of the car.
“When Naveen sought the delivery of the vehicle he was being avoided after which he registered a complaint with the police,” SSP said.
The officer said that during the course of investigation, police tracked phone calls, bank details of the cheaters and apprehended four Nigerians jointly with Navi Mumbai Crime team, adding that six phones, two tablets, three diaries, 13 SIM cards, 2 memory cards and two passports of Nigeria were recovered from their possession.
He said that the accused have been identified as George Tobechukwo Ike, Frank Uzor, Ifeani Uzoechi and Grace Okalika. “All of them have been brought to Jammu on a six-day transit remand,” he added.
The SSP said besides this the police also worked out four snatching cases with the arrest of two snatchers who have been identified as Amarjit Singh alias Nitan of Balmiki Colony and Deepak Kumar alias Deepu, a resident of Trikuta Nagar. “A cash amount of Rs 5000, an ATM card, an Aadhar card, one Ipad and two Nokia phones were recovered from them”, he added.
Moreover, Gandhi Nagar police arrested a thief identified as Shah Nawaz Wani of Marmat Doda and recovered a stolen laptop belonging to one Swami Raj of Billawar, from his possession.
The SSP further disclosed that the SOG team of police apprehended a narcotic smuggler and recovered 14000 intoxicants capsules from his possession, adding the accused has been identified as Amit Kumar alias Mittu son of Ashwani Kumar, a resident of New Bahu Fort.
