Jammu migrants demand relief at par with Kashmiri migrants

UDHAMPUR, Oct 11: Jammu migrants today demanded the Government to provide them the relief at par with Kashmir migrants.
Doda, Ramban and Udhampur migrants, which have been putting up at different locations in Udhampur district, held a meeting here today against the discrimination of the Government in providing cash relief to them.
The meeting expressed resentment saying that the Government is providing them a meager amount of Rs 400 per soul on the name of relief with sealing of Rs 1600 per family while as the migrants of Kashmir Valley are getting Rs 1250 per soul with a sealing of Rs 5000, which shows the Government’s alleged discrimination with Jammu migrants.
The meeting alleged that the Prime Minister of India during his visit to Jammu had announced an employment package for Kashmiri migrants, but no such package has been made operational for the Jammu migrants, which needs to be made operational. “In this regard we made many representations to various authorities, besides Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, but we got nothing except hollow assurances”, the Jammu migrants stated.
“Recently we again approached the relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner, Jammu and handed over the memorandum in this regard, which was submitted to the Revenue or Administrative Department of the State by the Commissioner for further consideration”, the speakers said, adding that if this time their demands are not fulfilled, they will be left with no other option except coming on the roads.
