JAMMU, May 6: Son of the soil, Dr Malwinder Singh, a part of ‘critical care team’ dealing with Corona virus patients in United State of America, which has become the epicenter of the COVID-19 across the world, has earned accolades in United States from the Institution and also New Jersey community with his untiring hard work round the clock.
Dr Malwinder, a graduate from GMC Jammu (Batch 1988), where he received his Medical education laying the foundation for his career abroad, has also brought laurels for the people of J&K UT. Born in a middle-class family in Jammu, Malwinder was inspired by his father- Dr Mohinder Singh, who is well known Pediatrician and distinguished administrator.
After a brief service in Batote, following completion of his MBBS, he migrated to USA in 1991. Since migrating to US, he completed his Residency in Internal Medicines from New York Medical College (1993 -96 )and then moved to Little Rock , Arkansas to finish Fellowship (Specialization) in Pulmonary and Critical Care (1996 -1999). He is a Board Certified in Pulmonary (Lungs Specialist) and Critical Care Medicine. For the last 20 years, Dr Malwinder has been practicing Pulmonary/ Critical Care Medicine as a solo practitioner in northern part of New Jersey. Along with the practice of Medicine, he had interest in Healthcare Management and completed Board Certification in Health Care Management in 2012. He is a Fellow of American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE). Recently, he also completed Masters in Healthcare Administrations (MHA) from Seton Hall University.
Dr Mohinder Singh, whose three generations are in Medical field, is presently with his son-Dr Malwinder and grandchildren in US. Dr Malwinder’s eldest son- Dr Tarundeep Singh is pursuing Residency in Vascular Surgery from a world renowned Houston Methodist Center in Houston, Texas. His daughter -Harveen Kaur, Masters in Public Health (MPH) currently is working in Hackensack University Hospital , New Jersey coordinating the research on Remdesivir for the treatment of COVID-19. His youngest son -Kanwardeep Singh is finishing his Undergraduate studies from Case Western University aspiring to be a Physician, keeping up the family tradition.
Since it is well known to all that New York and New Jersey are the hardest hit areas with the current COVID-19 pandemic in the US, Dr Malwinder is proud to be part of Critical Care team dealing with Covid-19 patients. Never before in his career, he saw the outpouring camaraderie among the colleagues and overwhelming support of the community. He says, “its been a tough journey over the last few months with lot of learning experience but they are all in this together. This too, shall pass. ”
In his message to the people of J&K, Dr Malvinder says, ” It is better to stick together, support each other especially frail and elderly, follow all the precautions of social distancing, hand washing and use of the face mask as advised by the respective health care authorities.”
