Jammu girl gets international fellowship

JAMMU, July 28:Riva Verma, an IITian  and daughter of Professor Rajni Dhingra and Professor Rajni Kant of  Jammu University,  has been selected for prestigious international fellowship from the National University of Singapore.
After having completed her dual Degree in July 2015, securing second position from IIT Kharagpur with CGPA of 8.97,  Riva Verma has been offered this highly prestigious fellowship to pursue her Ph D program in the field of Cancer Research at the Department of Bio-Technology and Biomedical Engineering. She has been awarded a monthly fellowship of Dollar 2000/-, besides  an annual fee of Dollar 36,000/- to be paid by the Government of Singapore for a period of four years.
Riva Verma, a CBSE topper in 10th (2008) and 12th standard (2010)  from J&K State, was  the first girl from J&K to have received the KVPY (Kishore Vigyanik Protsahan Yojana) fellowship from the Ministry of Science and Technology,  on the basis of which,  she was admitted to IISER (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research) Bhopal.
Besides this, she was the first girl from the State to have qualified ISST-2010 Examination (conducted by ISRO) and was invited for admission in the Engineering Program of ISRO.
During her graduate program at IIT Kharagpur, she was also selected for Clinton Foundations Hultz Prize competition at San Francisco, USA, last year. She was also selected for an Intern- fellowship at Nashville University , USA in the Department of Biomedical Engineering to carry out a dissertation-based research project.
