Jammu Festival won’t yield expected results: AJHLA

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Feb 29: While appreciating the Government initiatives to celebrate Jammu Festival from March 24 to 28, All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association (AJHLA) has expressed its reservation that despite making such huge efforts the festival would not yield the expected results due to non-completion of ongoing tourism projects in Jammu district, aimed at making Jammu an independent tourism destination.
Addressing the meeting, Inderjeet Khajuria, president, said that in the absence of tourist spots, which are the only source for attraction of tourists, how one can expect the tourists’ influx in Jammu. He said that time and again the Government has been requested to complete the ongoing Jammu tourism projects, which are the only source of tourism attraction it is really sad sort of affair that Government has least bothered to complete even a single tourism project. Even Jammu Tawi Artificial Lake Project, which was started in 2010 has not been completed till date.
He wondered that during this financial year the Government has not even touched the project at all, which is matter of grave concern and exhibits the discriminatory attitude of the Government.
Khajuria said that until and unless the ongoing tourism projects including Jammu Tawi Artificial Lake Project, Cable Car Project, Upgradation of Manda Wild Life Sanctuary/Deer Park to National Park with a Zoo of International Fame, Development of Suchetgarh Border on the pattern of Wagha Border with ceremonial parade and unfurling of Indian Flag, Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex and Modernization of General Bus Stand, Jammu with Parking and Shopping Complex besides Inter State Bus Terminal are completed the purpose of attracting of tourists would not be achieved.
He further said that till the Government does not complete the said tourism projects mere celebrating the Jammu Festival would not help in attracting the tourists from outside the State.
Mentioning about the celebration of J&K Festival in Delhi HAAT from March 1 to 15, Khajuria said that the main focus of publicity generally remains on Kashmir tourism, which has already attained international status. He added that there is dire need of giving wide publicity of existing tourist spot in Jammu district, which are always neglected.
