JAMMU, Aug 22: Advanced laparoscopic rectal cancer surgery was performed by Dr Sandeep Bhat and his team at JK Medicity Hospital here.
Eighty year old male patient presented with bleeding per rectum and was being managed as a case of haemorrhoids (Piles) but was subsequently found to have large polypoidal tumor of rectum on colonoscopy which on biopsy was diagnosed as adenocarcinoma rectum.
CT Scan of abdomen didn’t reveal any evidence suggestive of metastatic disease or local advancement. Patient was planned for laparoscopic low anterior resection surgery, an advanced laparoscopic cancer surgery demanding specialised expertise and laparoscopic skills. Dr Bhat and team comprising of Dr Suresh Saraf (urologist) and Kuljit Singh (senior Laparoscopic Assistant), using high tech laparoscopic system and harmonis device. Anaesthesia was given by Dr Gurmeet Singh, well known anaesthetist and intensivist with profound clinical acumen and expertise.
Patient behaved well in the post operative period with minimal analgesic (pain killers) requirement and was started feeding and ambulation on second day and was discharged in satisfactory condition on sixth day. Dr Sandeep, is presently consultant Department of Surgery, GMC&H, Jammu.
