JAMMU, Feb 26: A senior doctor from Jammu, who was airlifted to the Union capital as a critical suspected swine flu case, died in Delhi just after landing there this afternoon.
Identified as senior Pediatrician, Dr Bhupinder Singh, the medico was admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu as suspected Swine flu case two days ago. His condition deteriorated today and he was airlifted to a Delhi hospital.
The sources informed Excelsior that Dr Bhupinder Singh, a resident of Gandhi Nagar, Jammu was posted at Government hospital in Bishnah. He was admitted in Isolation ward of GMCH in a critical condition for suspected swine flu symptoms.
“He was on ventilator at GMCH for last two days. In view of his deteriorating condition, his family members got him discharged from here on request and airlifted him to a hospital in New Delhi. However, he even could not reach the hospital and died at Airport”, sources said, adding his report of Swine flu test is still awaited.
Meanwhile, the Health Department Jammu today sent 21 more blood samples of suspected swine flu cases to the National Centre for Disease Control, New Delhi for testing.
“Today 21 more swab samples have been sent for testing to New Delhi for testing while the results of samples already sent are still awaited as no report was received today,” Dr B S Pathania, Director Health, Jammu said, adding two more patients with suspected Swine flu symptoms were today shifted to Isolation Ward of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu taking the total number of admissions to 22.
He further said the report of one person who died of suspected swine flu on Tuesday night is yet to be received.
Meanwhile, the staff and the employees of Chopra Nursing Home today held a protest against hospital authorities demanding issuance of N95 masks for them. Raising slogans against the authorities, they said that though doctors on duty are being provided N95, the same have not been provided to other employees, who were doing their duty with full dedication facing the threats of swine flu. Later, after assurances given by the Medical Superintendent, GMCH, Dr Rabinder Ratanpal of providing the masks to them, they dispersed and resumed their duties.
Our Srinagar correspondent adds:- Nine more persons have been found positive for H1N1 at Sher-i -Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) here, taking the number of infected persons to 181 since October last year.
Public Relations Officer, SKIMS said that 195 patients were investigated today up to 2.00 pm, in which nine fresh samples were taken. “Eleven patients were admitted in isolation ward and out of which one is on ventilator,” Public Relations Officer, SKIMS said, adding, no death has been reported today.
The PRO also said that many frontline health workers including doctors and paramedics were vaccinated today in the hospital. “SKIMS is likely to receive reagents, chemicals for 500 patients from NCDC New Delhi, arranged by Governor NN Vohra,” PRO said.
