JAMMU, May 2: An art exhibition of three Jammu artists started today at the Jahangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, which is considered as one of the most prestigious address for exhibition of contemporary art in the country.
Academically trained, the trio of two young painters and a sculptor, participating in the week-long group show titled as ‘From Facts to Values’, include Rohit Verma and the artist couple of Milan Sharma and Vikas Khajuira.
The canvases of Rohit Verma, the senior most amongst the group, are continuation of his series wherein he creates a parade of dream characters depicting variations of moods and expressions. Contrary to the ‘hardware world where the heart tends to become hard, his feelingful and soothing compositions imply the colorful poignancy of human soul.
Milan Sharma’s paintings on the other hand are expression of ‘poetic fancy’, a kind of act of celebration; ‘the joy of living, being a fiesta of colors’ where images from memory flow into the present moment.
Vikas Khajuria’s sculptures mostly in mixed materials like wood and stones, instead of relating to external facts, visible to all to see, prefers to go inwards to his creative mind, away from the exactitude of the physical eye to represent objects as they exist, under the gaze of ‘objective artistic intellect’.
Talking to Excelsior, Rohit Verma said, since Mumbai is the Mecca of art connoisseurs and critics, it is a dream of every contemporary artist to exhibit and prove his mettle, here. We are happy that we were able to exhibit at Jahangir Art Gallery, where the normal wait list is minimum five years.
