Four laning of Jammu- Akhnoor road is part of Rs 5100 crore PMDP package for NH-144-A but this initial 3 km stretch from Shakti Nagar Puli to Muthi has turned out to be a nightmare for not only daily commuters but for the residents of all adjoining residential localities since last one year. As per the contract alternative service road has to be provided by S.P Singla Constructions Pvt. Ltd., sub contractor of NHIDCL, on both sides since the start of work 7-8 months back. Company is supposed to construct a flyover of 5.5 kms but till now only 20 percent work has been executed openly violating rules of contract and denying citizens an alternative service road. There is no scope of alternative road on left hand side due to space constrain and road on right hand side is supposed to be maintained by R&B. Things get further complicated as revenue authorities have failed to hand over the land completely till date. With dug up roads the air pollution has crossed all permissible levels in the area. Frequent road accidents, wear and tear to vehicles, rainy season water loggings are other factors which require immediate attention of the authorities. This road is the only link to Poonch, Rajouri and strategically of utmost importance for army as well but even this has not made authorities to wake up as such intervention of court is the only ray of hope for public.
