Jammu Airport gets 3 aerobridges, taxi link

JAMMU : Jammu Airport was facilitated with the launch of three aerobridges, taxi link and apron to provide better facilities for air passengers and planes.
“It was a historic day for air travellers from the Jammu airport as three aerobridges and new taxi link between the runway and apron were commissioned Friday,” Jammu Airport Director D K Gautam told reporters here.
He said that with the commissioning of the aerobridges, passengers will be able to board the aircraft and exit directly into the terminal building with enhanced comfort level and convenience in all-weather conditions.
“These aerobridges have been built at a cost of Rs 6.25 crore by the Airports Authority of India”, he said.
The first floor of the security hold area will be put to use and will eventually reduce the congestion in the security hold area on the ground floor as the boarding gates have increased from two to five, thus enabling boarding and de-boarding of 5 planes at a time with sufficient space for waiting passengers also, Gautam said.
Separate escalators and elevators have been provided for departing and arriving passengers which are user-friendly for passengers with reduced mobility and visually impaired, AAI Director said.
The additional taxi link constructed at a cost of Rs 5 crore has connected the remote parking bays with the runway and will reduce the runway occupancy time of the aircraft resulting in expeditious flow of air traffic, he said.
The aircraft parking capacity of the Jammu airport has increased from six to seven and two additional dedicated parking bays for helicopters, he added.
The first arriving aircraft on the newly constructed taxi track was welcomed with water cannon salute, he said.
Gautam informed the the AAI is striving hard to enhance the passenger experience at the Jammu airport and sought the co-operation of passengers in maintaining the facilities and keeping the premises neat and clean. (Agencies)
