NEW DELHI, Dec 27:
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today categorically denied that his wife and daughter had misused a naval helicopter at the instance of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on December 23 to reach a resort in Goa.
Media reports appearing in a section of press are entirely false, he added.
“Firstly, it was my wife and son (not my daughter) who were in Goa on December 23. Secondly, they did not use any Governmental facility, least of all a naval helicopter. Thirdly, Manohar Pariikar, the Defence Minister, had not sanctioned the use of any Defence helicopter for them,” Mr Jaitley posted on social networking site Facebook.
It was reported that a Goa-based activist had asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to order an enquiry on the alleged misuse of naval helicopter.
According to news reports, social activist and lawyer Aires Rodrigues had claimed that Mr Jaitley’s wife and daughter were flown by a naval helicopter from Dabolim Airport to a resort at Cancona in South Goa.
He further alleged that the naval chopper was made available at the instance of the Defence Minister. The Minister said no activist has a right to invent falsehood and then publicize it over the social media.
“I am waiting to see whether this activist and the online editions, which have published the statement without verification, retract from the falsehood and tender apology and express regret over the same,” Mr Jaitley said. (UNI)
