JAMMU, Aug 29: Tightening noose around those indulging in the evasion of tax, Income Tax Department today carried out surveys in three branches of Akash Institute’s franchise and a clinic of oncologist.
Official sources told EXCELSIOR that IT Department sleuths today carried out surveys in three branches of Akash Institute’s franchise —two at Gandhi Nagar and one at Kachi Chawani and laid hands on several indiscriminating documents indicating evasion of tax by the owner of the branches—Dr Bharat Raj Gupta.
“There were reports that Dr Bharat Raj Gupta was concealing the income being generated by providing coaching for various national level entrance tests to the students at three different branches”, sources said, adding “there were also inputs that exact number of students being provided coaching has not been reflected in the records in order to conceal the income”.
Similarly, the clinic of oncologist Dr Ashutosh Gupta at Krishna Nagar was surveyed on the basis of inputs that he was not properly reflecting the income being generated from his establishment in the Income Tax returns, sources said, adding “both Dr Bharat Raj Gupta and Dr Ashutosh Gupta were on the radar of the Income Tax Department for the past sometime and today IT sleuths carried out simultaneous surveys in their establishments.
The surveys continued till late in the night and exact evasion of tax would come to the fore only after detailed examination of the impounded documents, sources said.
