KATHUA, Jan 15: Income Tax Department today organized a seminar on the widening of the tax base at Town Hall here.
The seminar was addressed by Sangeeta Gupta, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax J&K and was also attended by Rajiv Gubgotra, DCIT, P S Jamwal, ITO and prominent citizens of Kathua town belonging to different trade and industries.
The audience was addressed by Advocate Lalit Mahajan on behalf of Taxation Bar and Association, Devinder Verma, President Industries Association Kathua and Surinder Bajaj on behalf of Beopar Mandal Kathua.
The citizens of the town thanked the Income Tax Department for organizing such informative and friendly seminar and enabled them to interact with the officers of the department and address their problems on spot.
They pointed out that such events not only mitigate the grievances of the tax payers but also serve as a good liaison between the tax payers and the Income tax Department thereby bridge the gap. “Moreover, with such steps the department will come one step more closure to the tax payers”, they added.
In her address, Sangeeta Gupta stated that main purpose to hold such awareness camps is only to spread the message of widening of tax base and filing of tax returns by different categories of the people. She also pointed out that department is trying to provide services at the door steps of the tax payers, adding “we have opened new offices at Katra and Samba in the Jammu division so that tax payers of these areas get their income tax related problems solved without travelling to Jammu”.
She also pointed out that at present the tax can be deposited online at any place and there is no requirement to visit the bank branch for deposit of tax. However, the department has already got nominated the bank branches of the Jammu and Kashmir at Reasi, Katra, Samba and Vijaypur from RBI as Nodal Branch for receipt of income tax.
The Principal Commissioner of Income Tax pointed out that it is the topmost priority of the department to provide effective, efficient and timely services to the tax payers and the tax payers are also required to respond and not only deposit the due tax in time but also file their returns of income in time.
