JAMMU, Oct 12: The Income Tax (IT) Department conducted a significant outreach programme today at the Government Middle School in Purana Pind, RS Pura.
The initiative aimed to disseminate important information and insights to the education department officers regarding income tax matters.
The program was led by MP Singh, the Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Srinagar, and Rajeev Gubgotra, the Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Range-1, Jammu.
During the event, Rajneesh Gupta, ITO W-1(1), Jammu, highlighted cases where individuals had wrongly claimed deductions to secure false refunds.
He particularly noted that employees from various departments were involved in such malpractices. Gupta urged assessees not to be misled and encouraged them to rectify wrongly filed income tax returns within the stipulated time frame by filing ITR-U.
The officers further delved into how certain unutilized AINs (Account Identification Numbers) had been exploited by unscrupulous professionals to obtain fraudulent TANs (Tax Deduction and Collection Account Numbers) and PANs (Permanent Account Numbers), leading to the disbursement of counterfeit budgets and refunds.
They also explained the benefits of tax calculations under both the old and new income tax regimes, providing clarity to the attendees.
In addition, the officers provided comprehensive information on calculating relief under section 89(1) of the Income Tax Act, 1961, with a focus on arrears received by the assessees, House Rent Allowance, and other allowances.
The program concluded with a lively interaction session where approximately 50 Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) under the jurisdiction of ZEO RS Pura raised various queries.
The topics ranged from uploading TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) on systems to deductions under Chapter VI A of the IT Act, issues related to PAN allotment, and housing loans. The officers and their staff efficiently addressed all the queries, providing much-needed clarity to the attendees.
Rajneesh Gupta expressed his gratitude to Suraj Singh Rathore, Chief Education Officer, Jammu, for the arrangements that ensured the success of the outreach program.
