NEW DELHI : The issue of resettlement of Kashmiri Pandits was raised in the Lok Sabha with BJP Member Nishikant Dubey urging the government to take immediate steps for rehabilitation and welfare of displaced persons from Kashmir who were forced to flee their birth place following a series of violence.
In a discussion in a Private Member resolution on ”Immediate steps for rehabilitation and welfare of displaced persons from Kashmir”, Mr Dubey said the government should take steps to ensure that displaced persons from Kashmir return to their birth place. He said the government should provide land housing grants, social security and cultural redevelopment facility to the displaced Kashmiri Pandits.
He suggested that housing colonies should be developed in central locations in the state for providing shelter to the displaced persons who want to return to their homeland. He said an Act should included in the Constitution as 370A for a reserved seat in Parliament for the Kashmiri Pandits.
The government had earlier clarified that the government has made no plans to create separate zones for Kashmiri Pandits in Jammu and Kashmir. The government statement comes after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had last month assured Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh that his government would immediately start the process of creation of townships for the return of Kashmiri Pandits .
