JAMMU, July 6: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir today ordered that Directorate of Indian system of Medicine, J&K shall be the implementing agency for various activities of medicinal plants cultivation in the Union Territory.
Director ISM shall be the Chief Executive Officer of J&K Medicinal Plants Board, which will function for conservation, development, sustainability and marketing of medicinal plants besides encouraging budding entrepreneurs for establishing herbal industry in J&K.
According to an order in this regard, the implementing agency shall implement the activities approved under medicinal plants component of National AYUSH Mission and receive funds from the Government for releasing the same to SHGS, cooperatives of growers etc. It shall liaison with the Ministry of AYUSH for proper implementation of the scheme in J&K.
The agency shall prepare perspective and annual action plan with the technical support from a Technical Support Group at the UT level with the members from Agriculture Universities, Facilitation Centres, ICAR, ICFRE, CSIR Institutions and others experts in the field to oversee its implementation.
The Medicinal Plants Board will thrive to achieve mass cultivation of medicinal plants and their processing, marketing, trading; conservation of rare, endangered and threatened species of medicinal plants; establishment of herbal gardens (institutional, home and community herbal gardens), value edition of medicinal plants and development of entrepreneurship of medicinal plants.
