IRP constable among three held with Rs 7 lakh worth heroin

JAMMU, Mar 22: Gandhi Nagar police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ arrested three drug peddlers including a police constable and recovered heroin valuing Rs 7 lakh from his possession.
As per police sources, on reliable information, a team from Gandhi Nagar Police Station laid a naka near Green Belt crossing and signaled a car bearing registration number JK03F-5377 to stop for checking, but instead of stopping, the driver accelerated the vehicle and escaped from the spot. Stinking something fishy, the cops chased the vehicle and intercepted it.
During checking, police recovered 55 grams heroin valuing Rs 5.5 lakh from the possession of two persons traveling in the car and arrested them.
The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammad Saleem, son of Noor Din of Asrarabad, Sidhra and Ghulam Mohammad, son of Mohammad Sadiq, a resident of Kawari, District Kupwara.
Ghulam Mohammad is a constable posted in IRP 7th Battalion and it is assumed that he used to bring the consignment from District Kupwara (a district close of Line of Control) for selling among his associates in Jammu and surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, on credible information, another team from Gandhi Nagar Police Station laid a naka near Cremation Ground Shastri Nagar and intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration number JKO2BF-6903.
During frisking, police team recovered 15 grams heroin valuing Rs 1.5 lakh from the possession of the rider and arrested him.
The accused has been identified as Sahil Ahmed, son of Munir Ahmed, a resident of New Plot, Jammu.
Case under FIR Numbers 67/18 and 68/18 under Sections 8/21/22 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar and investigation started.
The arrests were made by SHO Gandhi Nagar Inspector Sunil Singh Jasrotia and assisted by Incharge Nehru Market Police Post SI Jai Paul Singh and SI Kali Charan under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, SP South Sandeep Choudhary and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
It is to mention that, during the current year, 24 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act cases have been registered in Sub Division South Jammu.
