JAMMU, Apr 25: The World Red Cross Day was celebrated by the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), J&K here today.
On the occasion various programmes were organised to make a positive impact on the different sections of the society by raising the awareness about the humanitarian work.
The series of activities were initiated under the leadership of Manoj Sinha, Lt. Governor (President, IRCS) J&K and supervision of Rohit Khajuria, General Secretary, IRCS, J&K-UT.
To ensure that girls have access to the necessary resources to manage their menstrual health with dignity and comfort, IRCS, J&K distributed free Sanitary Napkins to approx. 100 female students of 8th to 12th class of Govt. Girls High School, Kachi Chawni, Jammu and offered Menstrual Hygiene lecture to them.
A Youth Red Cross programme was also organised at Govt. College for Women, Parade Jammu. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Kavita Nijhon, Medical Officer, Vironica Marwah, Field Officer, IRCS, J&K.
The students were apprised about the benefits of youth Red Cross, how different programs and activities can be organised by the youth so that the leadership qualities among the students can be inculcate. Then the students were briefed about the First aid and how it can be useful to them in their daily life.
Later on, Red Cross Membership forms were also distributed among the students to become members of IRCS, J&K-UT. The camp was co-ordinated by Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, convener Red Cross, Govt. Women College, Parade Jammu.
In addition to these programmes, eight days First-Aid Training Programme was organised at Red Cross Bhawan, Kachi Chawni, Jammu.
During the 8 days training, different topics were covered like various techniques of Disaster Management during Earthquakes, Fires, Floods, First-Aid Kit, wounds, bandages, types of fractures, bleeding emergencies, burns etc. Emergency technique of handling bleeding patient, Fracture/accident victims was also emphasized.
Highlights of the programme were how to resuscitate a patient of fainting and Cardiac Arrest. Emphasis was laid on the Management of injuries, fracture, burns, control of bleeding, practical demonstrations of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and Choking.
The practical and theoretical lectures were laid by Dr. Kavita Nijhon Verma, Dr. Manpreet Kaur, Ravi Kant Magotra, Naziya Banoo and Joginder Kumar.
On the last day of session, Rohit Khajuria, General Secretary, IRCS J&K UT interacted with all the participants and issued Provisional certificates to them. The training went quite fruitful and ended on a good note.
