Irate people hold demonstration, block Lakhanpur-Thein road

KATHUA, Oct 9: The irate residents of Dhana, Dhanor and adjoining villages of Kathua district today blocked the Lakhanpur -Thien road after holding demonstration at Dhana in protest against the abandoning the macdamzation work of the road by the PWD.
The traffic to Bani, Basholi and Billawar remained disrupted for over one hour with the protestors remaining adamant on their demand of an assurance from the authorities that the macdamization of the road will be started within days.
The protestors said that the road construction was started by former Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammed Sayed in 2015 and later it was abandoned with the result the people have been put to hardships as entire dust enters the houses in adjoining villages creating a dust pollution in the area.
As the protestors did not agree to lift the road blockade on the instance of local police officers later the engineers from  PWD, Kathua reached the spot and they assured the protestors that the work on the road will be started within 20 days. On this assurance the people lifted the road blockade and dispersed.
However, they warned that incase the work was not started after 20 days on the 21st day they will again start agitation.
