JAMMU, Nov 24: The Department of Environmental Sciences, Central University of Jammu (CUJ) today organized an International workshop on “Role of Aerosols in Ice Nucleation: A Climate Perspective”.
Dr Bruce F Moffett, a bio meteorologist from Ocean Lab, Fishguard, Wales, UK delivered a very informative talk on novel sources of INPs and also provided hands on training on FCIS, a unique ice spectrometer which he has brought from UK.
He has studied and analyzed several rivers around the world, which includes the Mississippi, Missouri, North Platte, New River and Maumee in USA, the Rhine and Severn in Europe, the Tiete in Brazil and now he is working on the Himalayan rivers in collaboration with scientists at Central University.
This campaign will be the first of its kind in India and will make a significant contribution to this expanding field of research on understanding the role of aerosols in ice nucleation. In addition, it will provide the initial step in establishing a mutually beneficial Indo-UK collaboration.
Ravi K Kesar, former chairman, JKSPCB graced the inaugural session and discussed various environmental issues with facts and figures. Vice Chancellor Prof Ashok Aima presided over the inaugural session and encouraged the research scholars to enthusiastically participate in the workshop.
The workshop concluded with vote of thanks presented by Dr Shweta Yadav, organizing secretary and J&K coordinator for National Clean Air Programme.
