JAMMU, June 21: The International Day of Yoga was celebrated today with great enthusiasm by all educational institutions, Government and public sector organizations, besides social and political organizations across the UTs of J&K and Ladakh.
Department of Youth Services & Sports (DYSS) celebrated International Day of Yoga with great fervor and enthusiasm in Botanical Garden at the foot hills of Zabarwan in Srinagar. The Yoga Instructors initially briefed about the essence of Yogic exercises and there after held a 45 minute practice session with demonstration of Yoga Asanas. Principal Secretary, Youth Services & Sports Department Alok Kumar accompanied by Joint Director Kashmir Bashmir Ahmad and District Officer Srinagar Balbir Singh also practiced Yoga.
In Jammu, the programme by DYSS was organized at Khel Gaon Nagrota where Advisor to LG Farooq Khan was the chief guest. In Udhampur district, DYSS organized Yoga programme at Mini Stadium Udhampur where demonstration of different Asanas was taken over by DYSSO Udhampur, DYSS staff members, field staff and more than 30 participants. The whole demonstration went virtually. The same function was also organized at District level under the banner of District Administration at Subash Stadium Udhampur.

The Day was celebrated with enthusiasm across Kargil district. A series of yoga exercise sessions restricted to home with family were held at the District Headquarters as well as the Sub Divisional and Tehsil levels. Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan and Advisor to LG Ladakh Umang Narula performed Yoga Asanas and ‘Pranayama’. Other Executive Councilors and officers, heads of political and social organizations and elected representatives performed yoga at their respective homes with families while ensuring strict adherence to COVID-19 SOPs.
In Poonch district, DYSS organizes Yoga Day programmes on three venues– BHSS Poonch, GDC Poonch and GGHSS Sheesh Mahal Poonch. District Development Commissioner Poonch, SSP Poonch, Additional SP Poonch were present as guests. They performed yoga along with 80 participants at different venues.
In connection with International Yoga Day, Directorate of Tourism, Jammu organized Yoga Programme at various locations in Jammu region. On this occasion, Natasha Kalsotra, Joint Director Tourism, Jammu, Dr Umesh Shan Assistant Director Tourism, NHW and other officers and officials participated in Yoga session at Directorate of Tourism, Jammu and at its sub offices viz Tourist Office, NHW Batote, Katra, Samba, Mansar and Rajouri.
The Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy, Udhampur where a number of Yoga Asanas were performed by the staff and trainees under the supervision of V K Jamwal, SSP (Deputy Director Outdoor Training). Among others,Mohan Lal, Deputy Director (Indoor), K K Sharma, Deputy SP, AD (Q) and Ramesh Kataria, Deputy SP(S), PS to Director also participated in the Yoga session.
Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) organized Yoga Day in different wards of the Corporation wherein Yoga training was imparted to Safaikaramcharis and other sanitation field staff. Mayor Jammu Chander Mohan Gupta and Deputy Mayor Advocate Purnima Sharma and other Councillors participated in the programme through Google meet.
Dulhasti Power Station celebrated International Day of Yoga today with full enthusiasm. All officers and staff of the Power Station participated in the programme along with their family from their homes through digital media, under the chairmanship of Head of the Power Station Nirmal Singh, General Manager (Incharge).
Yoga Day was celebrated in CVPPPL Corporate office, Jammu and all its projects at Kishtwar following the COVID-19 guidelines. Senior officers of CVPPPL performed Yoga Asanas and Pranayaam guided by Yoga experts from Patanjali Yog Peeth, Jammu. The Day was also celebrated at Pakal Dul, Kiru and Kwar HE Projects of CVPPPL at Kishtwar virtually through online mode.
The Day was celebrated with lot of fervour and enthusiasm at Ftr HQ BSF Jammu, Sectors HQrs, all Battalions and BOPs on International Border and Line of Control covering whole of Jammu Frontier. IG BSF Jammu, N S Jamwal, in his message, advised all officers and officials to inculcate Yoga in their day to day life. Approximately 500 BSF officers, Subordinate Officers and Jawans took active part in one hour Yoga programme at BSF Paloura Campus Jammu.
To make the International Yoga Day a memorable occasion, a tree plantation drive was undertaken at Krishi Bhawan, TalabTillo, Jammu led by Director Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare Jammu, K K Sharma. The participants on the occasion pledged that 10,000 fruit bearing, ornamental and forest trees will be planted all over the Jammu Division under “Go Green Plantation Drive”.
Directorate of Indian Systems of Medicine (AYUSH) J&K, under the guidance of its Director Dr Mohan Singh organized various Common Yoga Protocol programs through offline and online mode. In this series, live yoga sessions were organized by the AYUSH Medical Officers in the premises of Government Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu, Government Unani Hospital Shalteng (Srinagar), Ranbireshwar Temple complex (Jammu) Hari Niwas Jammu and Green Field near Green Belt Park Jammu.
All jammu based units and establishments of Jammu sector of CRPF celebrated Yoga Day with great enthusiasm. At Group Centre Jammu, Bhanu Pratap Singh, DIG of the centre, inaugurated the Yoga Session. Similarly, 160 Battalion CRPF organized Yoga Day programme under the supervision of its Commandant KD Joshi. All the officers and officials of the Battalion along with their family members participated in the programme through online mode and performed various Yoga Asanas.
NHPC Limited celebrated International Day of Yoga across all its Power Stations, Projects and Regional Offices with full enthusiasm. During the celebrations, A K Singh, CMD, NHPC along with his family participated in a mass online Yoga session in synchronization with nationwide live telecast of demonstration of Common Yoga Protocol by Doordarshan. The programme witnessed participation of thousands of people including NHPC employees, security personnel, contract workers.
Senior BJP leader and former Deputy CM, Kavinder Gupta attended Yog Diwas celebrations at Zorawar Singh Park Trikuta Nagar. Speaking on the occasion, he said that Yoga can make the body and mind strong enough to combat Coronavirus like diseases.
In connection with Yoga Day, president BJP OBC Morcha JK-UT, BJP OBC Morcha State Team, District Team, Mandal Team office bearers and volunteers organized programs at different sites in Jammu Kashmir, where in all the participants performed various asnas of Yoga.
To spread the message on the significance of Yoga in changing lives of the people, BJP’s East Mandal on International Yoga Day held two functions in Geeta Bhawan and Government Hari Singh High School, Residency Road. On this occasion, Yudhvir Sethi was chief guest.
On the occasion, BJP Talab Tillo Mandal organized a programme at Ward 41, under the presidentship of Keshav Chopra. Former BJP president Sat Sharma, JMC Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta, secretary J&K BJP and Parbhari Jammu West Rekha Mahajan andf many other leaders participated in the programme.
BJP Kashmir Displaced District also organised a yoga session at Tika Lal Taploo Mandal Jagti. The function was organised by Chand Ji Bhat, president of the Association along with HK Razdan general secretary.
ABVP Kishtwar organised ‘Yoga Session’ to celebrate the Day at Kishtwar city wherein students and locals performed yogic activities during the session. The event was organised under the leadership of Shivam Sharma ABVP City secretary.
A yoga session was organized by the BJP Kashmir Displaced District, Kherbhawani Mandal at Sanjeevani Sharda Kendra Anand Nagar Bohri Jammu. Speaking on the occasion Ajay Bharti former MLC and Prabhari Kashmir District Displaced and Shuban Pandit vice president Kashmir Displaced District laid thrust on the importance of Yoga.
On the occasion of International Yoga Day, BJP unit RS Pura organized a yoga session at village Salehar. The event was led by a young yoga enthusiast Anannaya Sangra who taught regarding asanas with easy techniques and explained the importance of yoga.
JMC Councillor Sharda Kumari performed yoga on the occasion of the International Yoga Day and said that the Yoga is an ancient Indian practice that helps in maintaining physical and mental well-being, and over the years, it has found popularity in other countries as well.
Department of Students Welfare, Cluster University of Jammu (CUJ) organized an online session on “Yoga at Home, Yoga with Family” to celebrate International Yoga day, for the student and teaching fraternity. About 150 students and teaching faculty from Constituent Colleges, PGI Schools of CLUJ and other colleges participated in the event.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra, today observed international Yoga Day on the theme “Be with Yoga, Be at Home.” On this occasion, the varsity organised an essay competition on the topic, “Yoga – An effective way to boost immunity”, which was coordinated by Dr Madhu Mangal Chaturvedi (AP, SoPC) along with other faculty members.
Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu (JU) celebrated 7th International Day of Yoga online at Google meet. Around 150 participants took part including students and faculty of the Varsity besides members of civil society took part in the Yoga Session. Prof Manoj Kumar Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, JU was the chief guest on the occasion. In his address, Prof Dhar urged the participants to make yoga a part of their daily life.
To celebrate the Day, SKUAST-Jammu organized a yoga session in sports complex of Main Campus Chatha, in which students and faculty members participated. The session was also live-streamed on virtual platform for NSS students. In the inaugural address, Dean Student Welfare threw light on the importance of yoga for physical and mental health particularly in the prevailing COVID-19 conditions.
Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University celebrated Yoga Day at its campus. The event was organized by the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, BGSBU.
Kashmir University’s NSS organized a virtual event to celebrate the International Day of Yoga 2021.
YCET celebrated 7th International Day of Yoga in collaboration with Bhartiya Yog Sansthan (BYS) virtually on Zoom platform wherein management and faculty members participated. Dr Ranjana Verma, District Sangthan Mantri BYS was the session expert along with Seema Jamwal, Zonal Pradhan Mahila Adhikari and Sushma Singh, Mahila Adhikari.
A virtual workshop was held at Aryans Group of Colleges, Rajpura on the Day wherein Girish Munjal, Yoga Instructor, Art of Living and Vidya Sagar, Yoga Therapist interacted with faculty members and the students of Engineering, Law, Management, Nursing, Pharmacy, B.Ed and Agriculture. Commerce Department of Dogra Degree College today celebrated the Day by organizing jingle competition through Yoga Asana, videos and photo session wherein faculty members and students participated enthusiastically. The main focus of today’s event is to instruct the students about the importance of Yoga for our health and for well being. Faculty members and students perform different asana and pranayam for ensuring immune system, digestive system and for overall health fitness.
The Yoga Day was celebrated enthusiastically in Jammu Institute of Ayurveda and Research (JIAR) by organising three days workshop on different topics including Pre Covid, Covid and post Covid yoga asana along with college level competition such as e -slogan, e-poster and e-yoga poses. The chief guest of event was Mahavir Gupta, J&K UT Patron Arogya Bharti Jammu and Kashmir while Abhishek Sharma was the organising secretary.
2nd J&K Girls Battalion of Government College for Women Gandhinagar commemorated the Day on the theme, ‘Yoga for Wellness’ wherein the NCC cadet participated in various online activities.
NSS unit of Govt College of Education (GCOE) Jammu under the patronage of the Cluster University of Jammu organized an online Intra-College Videography and Essay Writing Competition celebrating International Yoga Day.
The program was ably conducted by Dr Shubhra Jamwal, NSS Programme Officer along with NSS volunteers. Dr Kulvinder Kour (Principal of GCOE) stressed that physical fitness should always be a priority for all and yoga is the best way to keep oneself physically and psychologically strong especially in the present challenging situation.
Sanjeev Kumar, Yoga expert from Jammu University and Dr Manpreet Kour, Associate Professor, GCW Prade were the judges of this event. Winners will be declared on the college website by 21st June.

As part of celebration of the 7th International Day of Yoga, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board organised a programme on yoga asanas and pranayam at its Sports Complex Katra maintaining adequate social distancing and strictly COVID-appropriate behaviour. Employees of the Board and sportspersons of the Complex performed a series of asanas and pranayam under the supervision of yoga experts. Kreeda Bharati Jammu and Kashmir and Sewa Bharti celebrated the Day with enthusiasm wherein nearly 39 Swayamsevak and other dignitaries participated. The proceedings the Yoga was performed by Rajesh Sharma, Principal Bhartiya Vidya Mandir School Kadmal Katra. He also quoted the mantra of Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi “Fitness Ki Dose Aadha Ghanta Rose’.
Nehru Yuva Kendra Jammu organized International day of Yoga with great zeal and gaiety in all 20 blocks of district Jammu and 7 blocks of District Samba. Various online and offline activities like Yoga classes, poster making competition, etc were organized during the week-long celebrations. The main function was organized at Gurha Salathia Stadium in collaboration with Guidance and Counselling Cell for Youth Development. In Udhampur, more than 100 people participated in the event.
Poonch District Taekwondo Academy celebrated the Day in collaboration with Physical Education Foundation of India, Chapter Poonch. All the young budding players of the Academy performed Yoga Asanas and give the message “Do Yoga Remain Niroga”. Amit Sharma organising secretary of the Academy was also accompanying the young budding players.
Bharat Scouts and Guides Udhampur celebrated the Day along with District Organising Commissioner Udhampur Rakesh Singh and District Headquarter Commissioner Vivek Gupta. Scout students of different units practiced different Asanas and also spoke about their precautions and benefits. Students also participated in Poster making competition and Quiz competition.
