International Conference on ‘Sustainable Destination Excellence’ concludes at JU

JAMMU, Feb 6: The two day 3rd International Conference on “Sustainable Destination Excellence: Revitalizing Peace through Innovation in Tourism” concluded today at School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, University of Jammu.
Prof Ashok Aima, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, was the chief guest while JU Vice-Chancellor,   Prof R D Sharma, presided over the function.  Dr Amir Shani, Department of Hotel and Tourism Management, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, delivered the Valedictory address. This conference was held under the convenorship of Prof Parikshat Singh Manhas, Director, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, JU.
Prof Ashok Aima, in his address, said that tourism can be instrumental in promoting peace and must be leveraged by creating tourism circuits. He said that the real beneficiaries of tourism development should be the local community and they should be involved in the tourism policies.
Dr Amir Shani talked about the challenges being faced by tourism industry.
Prof R D Sharma emphasized that findings of the researches should be implemented by the industry and the policy makers. He further asked Director SHTM to strengthen the Department by making more collaborations at National and International Levels.
Prof Keshav Sharma acknowledged the participation of all the stakeholders of tourism industry for providing innovative inputs that will help in preservation and maintenance of tourism resources.
Prof Parikshat Singh Manhas in his welcome address, shared the strategic initiatives planned by SHTM towards building a collaborative relationship with the industry and the Government. He informed that there were 12 technical tracks during which the researchers from across the country deliberated upon the issues confronting  tourism at the international and national level.
Prof Deepak Raj Gupta,  in his concluding remarks,  said that tourists can be active contributors to maintain and to preserve the sustainability of the destinations.
The proceedings of the function was conducted by Dr Suvidha Khanna and Dr Anil Gupta coordinated the function. The technical sessions were coordinated by Dr Deepika Gupta, Akshi Bhagat, Sandeva Khajuria, Manik Arora, Parvinder Kour, Nikhil Singh Charak, Gaurav Sharma, Nikita Dogra, Priyanka Sharma and Rahul Sharma.
